Live Edge Heirlooms is essentially me, Joseph Miller.

I grew up in the small Amish community in Aylmer Ontario, Canada. I come from a family with a long history of ingenuity and craftsmanship. Both my father and grandfather built furniture, among many other things.

When I was 16 my father set up a woodworking shop in the loft of our barn and we started building grandfather clocks. I took to woodworking like a dog to chasing cats.

In 2016 we, my wife and I, and three children, with a fourth on the way, left the Amish community in Aylmer. We moved to Bloomington IN, leaving behind family, friends, and my business. When you leave the Amish, you leave everything.

I started working as a salesperson at an Ag company and absolutely sucked at it. Fortunately, I was able to transition to a position as an IT person and ended up becoming a full-stack developer. I enjoy that job but find that I still need to do some slightly more creative work to keep my sanity.

And so, Live Edge Heirlooms was born. My goal with this venture is to build handmade furniture the way my father and grandfather did before me. Furniture that will last you a lifetime and will grace your space with the natural beauty of live edge wood.
